Russia to host FIFA World Cup 2018

FIFA has awarded Russia the right to host the 2018 World Cup finals, after the country got most of the successful vote of 22 executive members of FIFA in Zurich, a secret ballot instead.

Spain-Portugal, Holland, Belgium and England were the three other deals in the fight. The selection process involved several rounds of voting, have left the country with the least votes in each round.

More than 15 bids were received from the candidate countries on the 2018Event and Russia won a majority of 13 votes in the second round, after anchoring in the first nine. The Spain-Portugal joint bid received seven votes.

The tournament in Russia with 13 cities, all to help the country in the European region in a bid easier access. In an effort promised, Russia, visas during 2018 tournament scrap and this is seen as an important factor in the vote in the country in favor.

The ballot in Zurich also selected to host the2022 tournament, which was awarded to Qatar. The oil-rich Middle East country won against rival bids from the United States, Japan and South Korea in the last round of voting. Australia, the World Cup had bid for 2022 was also ousted in the first round vote.

Mexico, which used to bid 2022 tournament had moved his application citing financial reasons.

Neither Russia nor Qatar hosted the event before. The awarding of the tournaments onthese two countries, an end to a controversial consultation process with allegations of corruption that led to suspension of two board members.
